Zebra Technologies is a Lincolnshire-based company that produces barcode printers. These printers help companies such as Amazon LLC create barcode and RFID labels to track inventory through their supply chain.
Upon acquiring Motorola Solutions, Zebra will gain products including rugged mobile computers, tablets, and barcode scanners. The sale is to include Motorola’s current customers including Walmart Stores Inc. and TNT Express.
“It’s an aggressive play by Zebra to fortify their position in the entire AIDC (automatic identification and data capture) space,” Northcoast Research analyst Keith Housum said.
This will position Zebra to be able to service even more of the warehouse from printing labels and tags through to the actual scanning, making them a one-stop-shop for the majority of your warehousing equipment, though Motorola Solutions will continue to operate under the Motorola brand.
After the sale is completed, Motorola Solutions will be left with its core government and public safety business.
We at MSA Systems believe this could be a strategic move on Zebra’s part to bring ADC under one company, as Intermec and Honeywell did.
Maria Vickers, from the MSA Systems sales department stated, Zebra and Motorola, both world leaders in their respective industries, have been successful business partners for decades. The acquisition should prove to strengthen their abilities to provide users with the best of products and support.
For Zach Trammel from Motorola, it’s to stay the course and very optimistic about the future.
