On April 3rd 2014, Geeks Giving Back sponsored a fundraising casino night to help raise money for Just Let Me Learn foundation’s newest project.
Just Let Me Learn
Just Let Me Learn is a non-profit foundation founded by a mother/son team whose main objective is to bring education to children in economically challenged areas of the world. Through donations, they are able to build schools to provide children, and surrounding villages, with the resources to ensure a sustainable future.
The foundation’s current project is to provide a school to the rural village of Sesawng. This village consists of low caste Hindu and Muslim families who have migrated in from remote areas of other countries including Nepal and Bangladesh. They survive on subsistence agriculture, collecting roots and herbs, lumbering, and a small amount of fishing. The children of this area are born without birth certificates and are not counted on national census, therefore they are not given access to government funded education programs.
As part of the design of this project, Just Let Me Learn, is going to use as many local resources as possible, giving back to the community and building good will within. They also intended to use qualified educators from the area, and provide employment to other villagers including bus drivers, maintenance, and night guards for the school.
